THURSDAY 11TH

NATURAL

Good morning I hope you are doing well.
Do you remember thermal conductors and thermal insulators? Let´s have a look at them!
THERMAL INSULATORS. Materials that are good at keeping things hot or cold are called insulators. During the winter we wear fabrics like the wool that is an insulator to trap the heat around the body.

THERMAL CONDUCTORS. These materials are good at allow heat to pass through them. For example the metal in the saucepan.
On the other hand we are going to introduce the effects of thermal energy:
When we add heat to a substance, the state of the substance changes and its volume increases:
  • Melting: the solid substance is transformed into a liquid substance.
  • Evaporation: the liquid substance becomes a gas.
  • Expansion: the thermal energy and the volume of a substance increases.
In this video we can clearly watch how water evaporates and ice melts.

Now read the info on page 73 in your book and complete the exercise 4 in your notebook.
